Our History

After World War II, Randall Cooper returned to the house moving business he had been involved in before the war. ln 1947 he founded Cooper Concrete Co. to utilize the concrete skills he had learned in the house moving business. Starting as a concrete contractor, he worked out of his home on 15th Street in Garland until 1952. That year he became one of the first ready mix concrete suppliers in the area with the purchase of three 3 cubic yard mixer trucks. Cooper Concrete also moved to 5th Street, just north of downtown Garland. As the business grew, Randall was joined by several of his brothers and other relatives in the business. In 1964, the concrete contracting business was split off to a separate company, Garland Concrete. Randall was innovative in recognizing several construction trends and filling a niche in the local industry. He was also ahead of his time in hiring and promoting minority employees, including involving them as partners in the companies he founded. His business dealings have always been signified by integrity, fairness, kindness, and loyalty.

In 1980, Tom Cooper joined the business after completing his degree at Texas A & M University and graduate work at the University of Texas Dallas. In 1986, Deborah Cooper Ross joined the company after graduating from Stephen F. Austin University and a teaching career in the Garland ISD. She retired in 2015. Joe Cooper was a vital participant and owner in the business until his death in 2016. Joe also owned Garland Concrete, a concrete construction company, which is now owned by Brian Cooper. John Cooper rejoined Cooper Concrete in 2017 after a career in banking and consulting. He earned bachelors and masters degrees from Texas A & M University.

In 1990 Cooper Concrete installed its first computerized batching system. In 2000, Cooper Concrete was the first concrete company to sell ready mix concrete over the Internet using an on-line shopping cart. Cooper Concrete continues to be innovative in the use of technology to help its customers.

Since 1997 the second generation of Randall’s family has owned the business. Cooper Concrete is currently led by Tom Cooper - President and John Cooper - Secretary/Treasurer.
